I feel like it's a good, broad overview of different types of common sedimentary grains but there are better books out there if you are studying a specific rock type i.e. carbonates or shales. I wish this Atlas of Sedimentary Rocks went into a little more detail about clay minerals since I'm looking at shales and by: Atlas of sedimentary rocks under the microscope A third volume to accompany the successful Atlas of Rock-forming Minerals in Thin Section and Atlas of Igneous Rocks and Their Textures, this full-colour handbook presents over colour illustrations of the common constituents and textures of sedimentary rocks as seen using thin sections or acetate peels/5(6).
